Tony Brantley
Tony Brantley was an outstanding quarterback for the Pirates. He threw touchdown passes in every single game with only 3 interceptions during his senior season. Following the 1971 season, he was named The Daily Oklahoman’s Oklahoma City Player of the Year. He was the KOMA Radio Dr. Pepper Prep Player of the Year. “Coach And Athlete” magazine and “High School Scouting Systems of America” both named Tony to their Prep All-American teams. He was awarded the “All Around Boy Athlete Medal” by Putnam City while being selected 1st Team All-State and picked to play in the Oil Bowl All-Star Game vs. the Texas All-Stars. In that All-Star game, he set the Oklahoma team record for completion percentage as he went 18 for 27. This record still stands. Brantley went on to play football for Notre Dame. As a member of the Fighting Irish, he won a National Championship in 1973. He was also a member of victorious Orange Bowl teams in the 1974 season (vs. Alabama) and the 1975 season (vs. Miami). He primarily served as a punter for the Irish.
