Ben Rutz
If you followed high school football in Oklahoma in the early 1990’s, Ben Rutz was a household name. He was a star on the baseball diamond for Putnam City West as well. Ben received All-City mention all three years as the starting quarterback for the Patriots. He was twice mentioned on All-State teams as well. Rutz holds career records at West for passing yards, completions, touchdown passes and completion percentage. Ben received All-City mention on the baseball field all three years also and picked up All-State mention as a Senior. He signed to play football at the University of Nebraska. After two seasons, he transferred to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he led his team to a National Junior College Runner-Up finish. He then signed with the University of Kansas where he ended up starting at quarterback for the Jayhawks.
