1972 PC Baseball

The 1972 Putnam City Baseball team is the third Putnam City Baseball team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.  They follow the 1937 and 1945 State Champion teams for the Pirates.  The 1972 team won the schools fourth baseball State title by defeating Tulsa East Central 7-2 in the Championship Game.  The team featured some big names, including Putnam City Hall of Famers Steve Largent, Bob Shirley, Darrel Johnson & Pat Ryan.  Other key members were Jackie Schuman, Terry Naeher and Sam Lisle.  The team was coached by Larry Geurkink.  Geurkink went on to coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State for 22 seasons and is in the Hall of Fame for the Bulldogs.
