Marita Hynes
Marita Hynes was a teacher and coach at Putnam City when athletics for girls was started. During her time at the high school, she coached four different sports over the course of five seasons, including a state championship softball team in 1975. Hynes went on to be the Softball and Field Hockey coach at the University of Oklahoma. After coaching, she worked in OU’s athletic department, being promoted to associate athletic director in 1995. Marita was integral in helping to bring the NCAA Women’s College World Series to Oklahoma City. She has been inducted into the UCO Athletic Hall of Fame, where she was a multi-sport athlete, and the Oklahoma Softball Hall of Fame. OU’s softball field was named in her honor in 2004.
