Kelly Phelps
Kelly Phelps won three state championships as a member of the Pirate football team. He returned kicks (as a Freshman) on the 1974 championship team, which went 11-1-1. He was a running back on the 1975 championship team, finishing 10-3. As a Junior and Senior, Phelps was the starting quarterback, leading the 1977 team to an overtime state championship against district rival Putnam City West and finishing 13-0. He was named Oklahoma’s co-player of the year (w/PCW QB Scott Tinsley) following the undefeated season. He went on to be the starting quarterback at the University of Oklahoma in 1981 and 1982, leading the ’82 team to a New Year’s Day Bowl appearance in the Fiesta Bowl against Arizona State.
